Minted is at it again! Their latest design challenge was for artists to design products for their new brick and mortar shop in San Francisco, California, home of their headquarters. Designers were challenged to make “unique art and designs that bring a piece of California, and especially the San Francisco Bay area, to life.” I’ve never been to San Fran, but thanks to the internet, it didn’t take me long to discover what a cool and happenin’ city this is… and now I’m craving a trip to the west coast.

Here are my four submissions – voting starts today and endsΒ Monday, July 18 at 1pm EST. Like what you see? Click on each photo to take you to the product page, and cast your vote!

to the last drop

Good afternoon, and welcome to the (almost) end of the week! Thursdays are exciting for me because that’s when my weekend starts. These Disches don’t work on Fridays, and I have to say it is luxurious.

Anyway… I was just stopping in to announce that one of my photographs, “Golden Mums,” that I submitted to Minted in a recent design challenge has been chosen as an editor’s pick and is now for sale on If you’ll look to the right, you’ll see a sidebar link that will take you straight to my products that are for sale on their website. Also, if you order through this link, you get 10% off your order by using the code listed there. Lucky you!

Man, I’m loving I recently entered another contest where participants were asked to submit their family photos or photos they have taken of others to be used in their holiday card collection online. Although I am not a photographer by trade, I’ve had a few good friends ask me over the last couple years to snap some fun photos of their families, which has been a great way for me to bless them with a gift and get some experience with my camera. I picked a few of my favorites, submitted them to, and was delighted to hear that one of my photos has been chosen for an editor’s pick award (see above photo)!

The prize is $100 credit towards Minted, and I’m thinking I may order a couple of art prints for my walls. Below are a few of my favorites. Like what you see? Here’s a link to see more beautiful pieces from some great indie designers.

And just for kicks, here are a few more photos I submitted in the contest… aren’t these people so pretty?

It’s official! My winning design is now for sale on To quickly access the page where you can purchase this design for 10% off, click the sidebar on the right side of my blog that says “shop my baby shower invitations,” and use the promo code. This will link you to the baby boy color options. If you want to see the baby girl version and it’s coordinating color choices, click here. It’s been fun to get a handful of emails just within the last couple weeks informing me every time my design has been purchased. So exciting to know that real people are buying it!

I love how they’ve also added a designer profile page so customers can get a personal glimpse of the designer behind the product. Click here to see.

MINTED ART PRINT CHALLENGE is having another design contest, and I thought I’d take a stab at it again. This time around, it’s an Art Print Challenge, and the submissions can range from illustration to paintings to graphic or customizable posters to photographs.Β  I was so excited to hear they are taking photograph submissions! Photography is something I’ve really grown to enjoy these last three years since getting married and inheriting a pretty sweet camera. I’ve never done it as a profession, but it’s really grown into a hobby of mine to capture life in photos. So, I picked a few of my favorites from my archives and submitted them.

As you can see, on the right side of my blog, there’s a “vote” button, where you can view my design page and vote for my designs when the time comes. So, be checking back soon for voting dates. Also, take a look here to see all the artists’ submissions so far. There are some really creative things people are doing! Check out my three photograph submissions below. Hope you enjoy.

I’ve been on a blog hiatus lately, unintentionally really. BUT I have some great news to make up for lost time – My “Baby Love” baby shower invitation design has been chosen as an Editor’s Pick on! Out of a total of 595 designs submitted, 30 were voted as the top winners, and 69 more designs were chosen as Editor’s Picks. I was thrilled that I was even chosen at all, not to mention a $100 cash prize and 6% commission on all sales on top of that.

I have to say that winning one of these awards was a good morale-booster for me. I can get so easily discouraged as I look at other beautiful work of other talented designers and fall into the comparison game that is so debilitating. Entering this contest and putting my work on the line just reminded me that although I have a lot to learn, and I mean a LOT, it’s nice to know that the art I make is appreciated by someone out there. I feel like I’ve been challenged to push the envelope a little more creatively and have gained a bit more confidence along the way.

So, thanks to you all who took the time to vote and support this little feat. Pretty soon, my design will be up and running on for your purchasing pleasure. And here is the link to the design challenge page if you would like to view the other incredible submissions.

You may remember my post a few days ago about my design submissions on Minted. Well, the voting is OPEN, people! Just follow the link to the right —————————>
and create your free account. Once you are logged in, visit my designer page and vote for your favorite by rating 1-5. Unfortunately, the ratings are hidden until the voting time ends, so we’ll have no way to know how I’m doing until they announce the winners. I’ll keep you posted.

Also, make sure to check out the Design Challenge main page to see some other gorgeous submissions. There are some really talented designers out there.

Speaking of mint, I saw this on Pinterest today. Does that not look like the most refreshing summer drink ever? You can find the recipe here.

Well, I acted on a whim the other day (what’s new) and entered my first design contest ever at , a global community of invitation designers. Take a look at my two entries in their latest contest: “The Books to Bottles Baby Shower Invitation Challenge.”

I have always loved Minted not only for their beautiful and fresh designs, but also for the way they roll. Here’s why they are totally awesome:

“We believe that great design lives and thrives in the hands of indie designers that people may not have access to through traditional retailers. Our goal is to use technology to allow our community to discover the work of great designers from all over the world. And at the same time, create a place where designers can get exposure and build their careers.” – Minted

As I would love to win any one of their awards, I know there are many better designers than me, so I’m not getting my hopes up. But, if you would like to help me out, you can vote for my designs! I’m actually not sure when the voting starts, but for now, you can follow this link to my designer’s profile, or click on the link in the side bar, and see my designer page. Feel free to comment, make suggestions, or “like” my designs. And I’ll let you know when the voting has begun.
